Contest Entry--Halloweensie Story :)

Just posting a fun little Halloween piece I wrote for a contest entry put on by the lovely Susanna Leonard Hill--the prizes are critiques, courses, resources, etc., which are always essential to the aspiring author! Besides, I always find these things fun--the challenge was to create a story using 100 words or fewer and including the words TRICK, POTION, and COBWEB.

Of course, this piece is based on my own little Halloween-obsessed guy, who was asking "TODAY?" with 48 days to go...I figured a 48-day countdown book would be a bit much though...so I went with 10.

Enjoy! :)

HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN (84 words)

The leaves are falling!

It’s jacket time!

Is it today?

No, not today.

Today?

Today?

Today?

Let’s count down! Mark off the days!

10 days ‘til spooky spaces!

9 days ‘til costume capes!

8 days ‘til potion punch!

7 days ‘til wizard wands!

6 days ‘til monster music!

5 days ‘til glowing grins!

4 days ‘til cobweb cookies!

3 days ‘til shiver shimmies!

2 days ‘til ghostly games!

1 day ‘til trick-or-treat!

The candy is falling!

It’s costume time!

MY HALLOWEEN PARTY IS TODAY!

And just for kicks and giggles, here's a pic of my two trick-or-treaters, happy with their haul from our church's Trunk-or-Treat.

Happy Halloween!
